Third earthquake in a week is strongest this year for Colorado

An earthquake that struck Montrose County Monday shortly before 10:30 a.m. is the strongest in the state so far this year.

The quake, which occurred at 10:22 a.m., measured 4.5 on the Richter Scale according to the United States Geological Survey. Early reports placed the quake at magnitude 5.3 but were later revised. The quake was centered about 58 miles southeast of Montrose.

Nearly 700 people have reported feeling the earthquake, which occurred about one-half mile beneath the surface. Reports were received from Grand Junction to Cortez, and locations in Utah.

Kiowa County Commissioners meeting minutes – February 14, 2019

The Kiowa County Commissioner's regular meeting was called to order by Chairman, Richard Scott at 9:00 am on February 14, 2019. Commissioner Oswald opened with a prayer and Pledge of Allegiance. Those in attendance were:

Donald Oswald, Commissioner Howard Robertson, Commissioner Delisa Weeks, County Clerk 

Tina Adamson, County Administrator

Scott moved and Robertson seconded the motion to approve the minutes with one correction. Motion carried.

Former Colorado Governor Hickenlooper announces bid for presidency

Monday morning, former Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper launched his campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination. Hickenlooper announced his decision to run in a campaign video which highlights the his 16 years of executive experience and his record of accomplishment.

At the start of his first term, he faced an historic recession, devastating droughts, forest fires, and floods, as well as the mass-shooting in Aurora. Colorado has since jumped from 40th in job growth to the number one economy in the country.
