The Public Hearing for the Sheridan Lake Water District was called to order by Chairman Dick Scott on February 16, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at the KA Hall in Sheridan Lake, Colorado. Those attending the meeting were:

Weekend Weather Forecast

A warm and dry weekend is on tap for southeast Colorado, and will extend into Monday.

High temperatures will range from the mid-60s to mid-70s, with evening temperatures falling to the mid-20s to low 30s.

Winds will pick up Saturday night, ranging from 10 to 20 miles per hour. By Sunday, wind gusts to 30 mph are possible.

Regional Science Fair Features Over 200 Student Projects

Wednesday, February 17, Lamar Community College’s Wellness Center was abuzz on with students from Alta Vista, Eads, Holly, Lamar Middle School, Lamar High School, Parkview, Plainview, Springfield, Walsh, and Wiley as they competed in the annual Southeast Colorado Regional Science Fair.  The regional science fair featured 204 projects from elementary through high school level, from which 25 junior high and high school projects were chosen to continue to the state science fair in April.

Park County Deputy Shot, Killed

For the second time in less than a month, a Colorado law enforcement officer has been shot and killed.

Wednesday (February 24, 2016), members of the Park County Sheriff’s Office were serving an an eviction order at a home in Bailey. Officers made contact with Martin Wirth at the home.

Wirth is said have come out of the home briefly and went back inside. Officers followed, and Wirth began shooting. Officers returned fire, and Wirth was fatally wounded and pronounced dead at the scene.

Highlights of the Cattlewomen events included the presentation of the Cattlewoman of the Year to Helen Mitchell of Haswell. Mitchell became a member in 1980 and served in various capacities including 6 yrs as treasurer.
