Lamar Community College will host its 77th Annual Commencement on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at the LCC Wellness Center. Over 230 degree or certificate-seeking students are eligible to walk in this year’s commencement ceremony, including fall 2015 graduates as well as spring and summer 2016 candidates for graduation. The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00 am. No tickets are required for admittance.

The 22nd annual Arkansas River Basin Water Forum will offer a spectrum of informed presentations about basin water issues Wednesday and Thursday, April 27 and 28, at the SteamPlant Event Center, 220 W. Sackett Ave., in Salida.
Themed “The Color of Water,” the forum will feature keynote speakers, expert panels and informal discussions in an open, collaborative setting that encourages learning about all aspects of water.
Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) has voted in favor of an amendment to the Senate Energy and Water Development appropriations bill that prevents the Army Corps of Engineers from using funding to enforce the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) regulation. WOTUS, developed by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Army Corps of Engineers, redefines and expands waters that are subject to Clean Water Act regulations, and has the potential to impact an additional 1 million acres and 170,000 miles of stream in Colorado.
Thanks to a tip to Colorado Parks and Wildlife from a concerned hunter, a Fruita man is guilty of numerous charges of illegal big game hunting on the Uncompahgre Plateau.
Melvin Weaver, 59, whose last known address was in Fruita, pleaded guilty to two counts of illegal hunting, take and possession of big game; two counts of illegal big game hunting without a license; and one count of illegally taking a trophy elk, also known as the Samson Law. He was originally charged with 13 violations. The plea was accepted by the Mesa County court on March 15.

The Plainview High School students and their dates enjoyed Prom at the Towner Community Hall on Friday evening. A delicious supper was served to them before the Grand March. Austin Healy was crowned King and Cassandra Karas was crowned Queen. After Prom, they went to Plainview for the Post-Prom party. They were greet ed in the gym with huge blow-ups for obstacle courses and climbing and velcro walls.
