A few winter storms over the previous week have helped generate new improvements for Colorado’s ongoing drought.
Exceptional drought, the worst category, receded from portions of northern Costilla and western Huerfano counties in southern Colorado.
Early registration for 2019 Governor's Ag Forum starts this week
Early bird registration for the Governor's Forum on Colorado Agriculture will open November 15 and continue through February 1. Early registrants receive a $50 discount off the regular price of $200. Special discounts available for students and Colorado Ag Leadership Program Alumni.
The annual Forum is scheduled for February 27, 2019 at the Renaissance Stapelton Hotel in Denver.
Vilas takes top honors at LCC Knowledge Bowl
The Vilas High School A-team won top honors and the traveling trophy at the Knowledge Bowl hosted at Lamar Community College Friday, November 2.
With an overall score of 76 points, the Vilas team toppled Lamar High School, who had won the event for the past three years running. The LHS A team came in second with 72 points, while Plainview A took third with 56.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission meets in Burlington this week
The Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission meeting is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. and adjourn at 5:00 p.m. November 15 at Old Town Museum/Barn, 420 S. 14th St., in Burlington.
Sunflower production meeting set for southeast Colorado
Colorado State University Extension will host a sunflower production meeting on Monday, November 26. The meeting will be held at the Prowers County Fairgrounds Home Ec Building and will be held from noon to 2:30 pm. The program will begin with a noon lunch complements of the Colorado Sunflower Administrative Committee (CSAC).
Low-cost seedling trees available for landowners
Low-cost seedling trees and shrubs from the Colorado State Forest Service--South East Area are now available for order, as part of the 2019 Trees for Conservation seedling tree program. The program aids landowners impacted by recent fires, to obtain seedlings at a minimal cost to replace damaged or lost trees. The seedlings can also be used for conservation and land rehabilitation purposes.
LCC Lopes Volleyball Season Ends at Region IX Tournament
The season's end came sooner than hoped, leaving the Lamar Community College volleyball team to reflect on season full of success while learning from its postseason shortcomings.
The Lopes (18-14) fell to Casper in straight sets (20-25, 20-25, 20-25) on October 31 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, during the first round of the Region IX Tournament. It was a bitter end for a team with eyes on making a third straight postseason run.
