Betty J. Holthus

Betty Holthus passed away Thursday at the Weisbrod Memorial Hospital Extended Care Unit in Eads. She was surrounded by her family.
Betty has requested that no public services be held. She will be laid to rest at the Eads Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.
The Colorado State Patrol, with funding from the Colorado Department of Transportation, will begin the holiday weekend DUI enforcement period Friday with stepped-up patrols and checkpoints.

Despite the start of spring thunderstorms, Colorado’s drought situation continued to deteriorate. One-third of the state is in the two worst categories of drought.
Some areas showed improvements, with the northeast and north central areas continuing to lead that trend as the area benefitted from moderate to heavy rain, with some locations receiving up to three inches of rain.
Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper visited the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site in Kiowa County Wednesday to pay respects to those who died in the 1864 attack led by Colorado U.S. Volunteer Cavalry led by Colonel John Chivington. Peaceful Cheyenne and Arapaho native Americans were camped at the location and received assurances they would not be harmed. Instead, Chivington’s attack left 230 people dead, more than half of whom were women and children.
