Seat Belt Enforcement Campaign Underway
Last year, 60 lives could have been saved if everyone buckled up in Colorado. To ensure Coloradans are using seat belts, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and statewide law enforcement agencies will conduct the May Mobilization Click It or Ticket enforcement period from May 22 to June 4. Last year’s May Mobilization effort resulted in 5,983 seat belt citations, including 295 citations for unrestrained or improperly restrained children under the age of 15.
Warming Later this Week Across Eastern Colorado
A return to more typical spring weather is expected for eastern Colorado in the coming week after a late-season storm brought wet snow and rain to the state last week.
Mental Health and Coping with Traumatic Events
Psychological trauma is an emotionally painful, shocking, stressful and sometimes life-threatening experience. It may or may not involve physical injuries and can result from the impact of distressing events. These situations may also be natural disasters such as a tornado or earthquake. The events can also be human caused from a car accident, crime, or terror attack.

Child Care Annual Training Day Set
The Northeast Colorado Child Care Resource and Referral annual Summer Day of Training will be in Limon June 10. The training opportunity is open to anyone in Colorado who wants to learn useful skills in working with children. This includes family child care providers, preschool teachers, and center/preschool directors and children’s librarians.

Eads Ambulance Service Celebrates EMS Week
May 21-27 is National Emergency Medical Service Week. During this week, the Kiowa County Ambulance Service will be honoring volunteers that have stepped forward giving up quality time with their families to provide care for community members in their time of need. The volunteers are few, but dedicated, and take care of the situations that come our way no matter what. They are your everyday heroes. You are all very much appreciated, thank you for all you do.
Colorado Wheat Field Day Tours Include Kiowa County Stop June 8
The 2017 Colorado Wheat Field Days will be held June 8-14 across 11 different variety trial sites in eastern Colorado.
Tours include
- Walk-through of variety trial with Dr. Scott Haley, CSU Wheat Breeder
- Collaborative on-farm testing -- Dr. Jerry Johnson, CSU Crops Testing Leader
- Seed certification & plant variety protection -- Rick Novak, CSU Director of Seed Programs
- CWRF and CWAC updates – to be determined
Each plot tour will last about an hour and all field day locations will include refreshments or a meal.
