Kiowa County Commissioners Meeting Minutes – September 14, 2017

The Kiowa County Commissioner’s Regular meeting was called to order September 14, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Richard Scott. Oswald opened the meeting with prayer and Pledge of Allegiance. Those in attendance were:

Tina Adamson, County Administrator

McLoud moved and Oswald seconded the motion to approve the minutes as presented Motion        carried.

Arrest Made in Drug Investigation

Prowers County Sheriff Sam Zordel announced Friday that an arrested has been made for distribution of drugs.

Friday afternoon, Jose Santos Alvarez, 36, of Lamar, was arrested on a warrant for both possession and distribution of a controlled substance. Alvarez is being held in Prowers County Jail in lieu of a $200,000 cash-only bond.

The warrant for Alvarez’ arrest following a lengthy investigation conducted by the regional drug task force, comprised of the Prowers, Kiowa, Baca and Cheyenne county Sheriff’s offices.

Southeast Colorado Fishing Conditions – September 29, 2017

Clear Creek Reservoir

The trout fishing at Clear Creek Reservoir has been fair. Most boat anglers reported catching two to eight trout per boat. Either sherbet PowerBait or yellow Berkley’s Floating Magnum Eggs can be productive for shore anglers. Boat anglers usually do well on pink Tasmanian Devil lures in the fall. No one reported landing a kokanee salmon from a boat. The reservoir is closed to trailer motorized watercrafts on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. September 30 is the last day for trailer motorized watercrafts to access the reservoir.

Colorado Parks Seeks Opinions on Elk Management

If you want a voice in how Colorado Parks and Wildlife manages the Sangre de Cristo and Grape Creek elk herds, your time has arrived.

The agency has planned a public hearing at 6:00 p.m. October 11 at the Lake Pueblo State Park Auditorium, 640 Pueblo Reservoir Road in Pueblo. The hearing is part of the process of revising the herd management plan that will guide CPW for the next 10 years.

Everyone is invited to participate including hunters, ranchers and the general public.
