Tax ID Theft—CBI ID Theft Unit Offers Tips 

Tax season is in full swing, and if you’ve been a victim of Tax Related Identity Theft, there are specific steps you must take to file your tax returns.

Tax Related ID Theft occurs when someone uses your social security number to create a fake W-2 and attempts to file a fraudulent tax return using your identification. An ID thief obtains a social security number through many of the traditional means to steal personal information including a data breach, phishing scam, Internet hacking or others.

Sheriff’s Office: Beware of IRS Scam Calls

The Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office has been alerted by a county resident about a phone call where the caller purported to be from the IRS in order to obtain personal information.

The IRS does not call – or email - people asking for personally identifying information, including financial information. The agency sends notification via the United States Postal Services, and also responds to calls from taxpayers. Anyone receiving such a call should simply hang up.

1 cup water (warm, 120 to 130 degrees F)

All Colorado Driver License Offices to Close at 3 p.m. February 17

All state and county Colorado driver license offices will close at 3 p.m. on Friday, February 17, for a technology upgrade. This closure does not affect county title and registration offices, but does impact the driver license services offered in the following county motor vehicle offices: Arapahoe, Baca, Cheyenne, Douglas, El Paso, Kiowa, Kit Carson, Lake, Lincoln, Phillips, Sedgwick, Washington and Yuma.
