The Kiowa County Commissioners meeting was called to order by Chairman Dick Scott On February 10, 2016 at 9:00a.m. Scott followed with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance.

10 of Colorado’s finest chefs taking part in food competition under the Golden Dome
A cook-off competition featuring Colorado-grown foods and the teaming up of local chefs, lawmakers and representatives of the ag industry will highlight Ag Day at the Capitol – an annual celebration of Colorado’s producers and agribusinesses that this year is set for Wednesday, March 16, at the Capitol Building in Denver.
The official start of spring is still weeks away; however, you wouldn’t know it from the forecast this week in Kiowa County.
Most of the week will see continuing above-average highs in the mid- to upper-60s, with lows in the upper 20s to low 30s. The outlier is Tuesday, with a high in the mid-50s.
There is a slight chance of rain/snow Monday night, while the rest of the week remains dry.
Winds will tend to remain around 10 to 15 miles per hour throughout the week.

As boating season approaches, Colorado Parks and Wildlife reminds boaters once again to help prevent the spread of aquatic nuisance species (ANS). Memorial Day weekend may officially kick off the 2016 boating season, but some lakes and reservoirs are slated to open as early as March 1.
Lamar Community College is proud to announce Kristin Arns and Beecher Strube as the two students named to the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All Colorado Academic Team for 2016.
Each year the All-Colorado Academic Team Luncheon and Awards Ceremony honors the top high-performing, community service oriented students from 14 Colorado community colleges. These students belong to their college’s chapter(s) of the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor society and have been selected as being the “best of the best” from their respective institutions.

A warm and dry weekend is on tap for southeast Colorado, and will extend into Monday.
High temperatures will range from the mid-60s to mid-70s, with evening temperatures falling to the mid-20s to low 30s.
Winds will pick up Saturday night, ranging from 10 to 20 miles per hour. By Sunday, wind gusts to 30 mph are possible.
