Weather Outlook – the Week Ahead: Thunderstorm Potential
By Chris Sorensen
Although forecast models have struggled with storm potential for several days, available moisture in the atmosphere continues to offer the chance of thunderstorms at least into the middle of the week, with the greatest potential coming Monday night.
For Kiowa County Sunday, watch for a high temperature near 90 and scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms.
Storm potential continues daily through Wednesday, with slightly cooler temperatures – mainly in the low 80s.
Caring for Your Campsite
By Colorado Parks and Wildlife
Camping can cause significant impacts on public lands. You can minimize much of your impact by following these guidelines:
Home Country
Slim Randles
When old Jasper Blankenship came to town from the diggings recently, we asked him over for a few days. He saw us working the home computer and asked about it, but he really seemed to be immune to its wonders.
But then my wife showed him how he could call up a certain program, tell it where he wanted to go, and have it zoom in from outer space to some tiny corner of the world.
Well look out now, boys and girls; we have created a monster!
Ol’ Jasper went from being shocked to being a semi-almost-darn-near technogeezer in about half an hour.

U.S. Beef Exports Continue to Outperform Pre-BSE Levels
Following the discovery of a case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in December 2003, U.S. beef and beef product exports fell. Since 2003, USDA has led a multi-agency, full-court press, dedicating significant resources to restore foreign market access for U.S. beef. As a result, U.S. beef shipments had regained pre-BSE volumes by 2011 and even reached record values by 2014. Another central element of the U.S. strategy to maintain and expand foreign market access is insistence on policies that are based on the guidelines of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).
