Lots of people from our area took advantage of the opportunities they had to enjoy the County Fairs in Prowers, Cheyenne or Greeley Counties this past week. Our grandson Kyle and I went to Tribune Saturday evening for the Ice Cream Social and parade. Well, it rained on our parade - sheets of rain for about an hour. They received around 2". We had 6 tenths in Towner and it was certainly welcome.
Each month, the Colorado Department of Agriculture features a different product to highlight the variety and quality of products grown, raised or processed in the state. This month features Colorado produce in the Braised Colorado Cabbage recipe.

In an area where stoplights are rare, and in some counties non-existent, motorist in Kiowa County have been confronted with the traffic signals as repairs to area highways continue.
Elbert County Sheriff Shane Heap is seeking witnesses and assistance in locating suspects in a freeway shooting that took place during the early morning hours Friday.
According to the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded shortly before 1:00 a.m. to mile marker 352 on Interstate 70 just west of Limon for a reported shooting. The victim was a man from Kansas who had been traveling east when a blue, 4-door Honda pulled alongside the man’s vehicle. At least one of the two occupants of the Honda began shooting.

With Wednesday as a current exception, afternoon and evening thunderstorms will remain a possibility at least until Thursday.
Sunday and Monday’s high temperatures in Kiowa County will continue to be in the mid- to upper 80s before jumping to the low to mid-90s during the middle of the week. Current forecasts call for a return to mid-80s Friday and Saturday.
Overnight lows are expected to be in the 60s throughout the week.
The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Region 8 are joining forces in a safety campaign to raise awareness of motorcyclists traveling to and from summer motorcycle rallies.
For the first time, traffic safety partners in Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, North Dakota and South Dakota are teaming up in a border-to-border initiative, entitled “Safe 2 Sturgis,” to prevent motorcyclist injuries and deaths on our highways.
United States Congressman Ken Buck will be holding a town hall session in Lamar to answer questions and receive feedback from area citizens.
The town hall will take place Friday, August 19, beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Lamar Community College Library, 2401 South Main Street, Lamar.
