East End Events

By Sharon Scott

This past week was the beginning of basketball season for the Plainview High School boys and girls.  There was a large crowd that turned out for the games.  They host Lamar Monday evening and then are on the road the rest of the week.

The Christmas Craft Fair at Plainview on Saturday was well attended, with lots of different types of vendors offering their wares to the buyers.  I don't know about anyone else, but I hope this becomes an annual affair.  Congratulations to PCC for doing a great job.

USDA Makes Changes to Prevented Planting Program

New provisions to take effect for 2017 spring crops

The USDA's Risk Management Agency last week announced updated factors for prevented planting coverage, with these updates made in an effort to address the recommendations of a 2013 USDA Office of Inspector General (OIG) report. The USDA says these improvements will ensure that the program continues to be a well-run program that provides a strong safety net for producers.

West of Interstate 25, flights will start in Lake and Chaffee counties, and will work west into Park and Fremont counties north of Hwy 50, and on in to El Paso and Teller counties, finally, south through Pueblo, Custer, Huerfano and Las Animas counties.

WISDOM

Jesus said, "Whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: an the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house: and it did not fall, for it was grounded on the rock." Matthew 7:24,25

Home Country

Slim Randles

My first wife came from a ranching family way back up in the hills of central California and had a cousin, Ted, who was a hounddog man. This made him akin to Evel Knievel with a pack of pooches.

I talked my way into hunting with him, of course.

All went well until we were on the way home, when a badger ran across the road and dove into a large culvert pipe.

"Oh wow!" Ted yelled. "Let's get him!"

He released most of the hounds and they plugged the culvert pipe with bawling insults. In the dead center of the pipe was a snarling badger.

Reward for Information on Poaching in South Kit Carson County

Colorado Parks and Wildlife officials are asking for the public's help in solving an exceptionally disturbing poaching case that occurred in the southwest corner of Kit Carson County.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife is searching for information on who might have shot 11 big game animals over a two-night period in November.

Nine antelope and two white-tail deer were shot and left to rot south of the town of Seibert, Colo.

A $5000 reward is being offered to anyone that can provide information that leads to a conviction in this case.
