Each year on June 15 we observe World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. This is not a holiday to celebrate, but one to recognize that elder abuse is a serious problem in America and throughout the world, and if more people can recognize indicators of elder abuse, we can help to stop it!
Kiowa County School District RE-1, covering Eads Elementary, Middle and High Schools, is the only district in Colorado to achieve a 100% vaccination rate. Only 14 individual schools in the state achieve the perfect score – with the schools in Eads representing three of the 14.
The Dead Dog Fire burning along the Rio Blanco and Moffat county border in western Colorado has grown to nearly 18,000 acres.
Winds gusting to 70 miles per hour Monday caused the fire to rapidly grow to 5,000 acres and led to evacuations in the area. Evacuation orders were later lifted. Wind continuing Tuesday helped more than triple the size of the blaze, which is located north of Rangely.
Winds of more than 70 miles per hour at times pushed the Dead Dog Fire 10, located miles north of Rangely, to more than 5,000 acres today. U.S. Highway 40 has been reopened, and an evacuation of Blue Mountain has been lifted.
Rio Blanco County Road 1 and Moffat County Road 134 remain closed Monday night.

Glaida Belle Peterson was born at home on March 7, 1926 that her parents, Julius and Koneta Peterson, referred to as “The Johnson Place.” Her Dad built an adobe house and they moved to their new home when mom was 15. Mom lived no more than 30 miles from where she was born her entire life!

Two Fort Morgan men have been arrested due to their involvement in a December 2016 cattle theft.
A small earthquake struck southern Colorado early Sunday morning.
The quake, measuring 2.7 on the Richter Scale according to the United State Geological Survey, struck just before 3:00 a.m. It was located 26 miles east of San Luis in Costilla County, or 84 miles south of Pueblo, and occurred about three miles beneath the surface.
About 30 quakes have occurred in the state this year. Most of those earthquakes have struck in the western half of the state, including a series of 18 quakes over a 10-day period near Snowmass Village in Pitkin and Gunnison counties.
