  • The deed to the former Dawson property was formally transferred from Southwest Entertainment Inc. to the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma.
  • Representative Greg Brophy has announced Jennifer James will joining his staff at the capitol.
  • Janie Bush was home alone at their ranch near Chivington when she noticed a prairie fire coming toward their home. Joe, Janie and Joe Andrew are thankful to all the volunteers and friends who came to save their home and corrals.

  • Sharon Koch owner of Sharon’s Cuts & Styles has relocated her shop from the former Hickman St. location to 1316 Maine, next to Eagle Vision Headquarters.
  • Monday, an earthquake measuring 6.6 on the Richter scale struck Northridge California.
  • The Kiowa County Commissioners received a petition asking for a ban on the continued application of sludge on area cropland.
  • The Motor Vehicle Division of the Colorado Department of Revenue began issuing digitized image driver’s license and identification cards.

January 19, 1979

  • John E. Jacobs again garnered the Sweepstakes Trophy for best display of 10 heads of sorghum at the 1979 Colorado Pure Seed Show.
  • A winter storm which moved through the eastern Colorado dumped more than four inches of snow with a moisture content of .16 inches.
  • The Karvel Keenagers entertained the nursing home with two hours of toe tapping music.

January 17, 1969

  • A number of Kiowa County residents attended the National Western Stock Show in Denver.
  • For the first time at Eads Lanes, a league bowler converted the wide open split 4-7 6-10 for a spare. Betty Crow, a substitute for the Goof-Ups, accomplished the feat on alley 1.
