Governor Hickenlooper Orders Flags Lowered to Honor Memorial Day 2018

Colorado GovernorJohn Hickenlooper has ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings statewide Monday, May 28, in recognition of Memorial Day, and as proclaimed by President Donald J. Trump. Flags should be lowered from sunrise to noon.

Man Found in Field South of Eads Facing Multiple Charges

The Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office says a man found in a field southeast of Eads is facing numerous charges.

Deputies were summoned Wednesday to a location near County Roads E and 46.5 south of Nee Noshe Reservoir about a report of a man lying in a field. There they found Brian Mason of Lamar, who was transported by ambulance to Weisbrod Memorial Hospital in Eads.

Death Notice – Betty Holthus

Betty J. Holthus

May 4, 1934 – May 24, 2018

Betty Holthus passed away Thursday at the Weisbrod Memorial Hospital Extended Care Unit in Eads. She was surrounded by her family.

Betty has requested that no public services be held. She will be laid to rest at the Eads Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Brown Funeral Home.

DUI Enforcement Starts Friday for Memorial Day Weekend

The Colorado State Patrol, with funding from the Colorado Department of Transportation, will begin the holiday weekend DUI enforcement period Friday with stepped-up patrols and checkpoints.

Nearly 100 law enforcement agencies across the state are joining The Heat Is On campaign to promote awareness of the dangers of driving drunk or high, and encourage safe rides to or from holiday gatherings and other activities.

So far in 2018, 193 people have died in crashes, with over one-third of those fatalities involving an impaired driver.

Conservation District Launches Conference to Improve Ag Profitability

The Kearny County Conservation District, along with dozens of sponsors, is launching a conference to help agricultural producers improve practices and profitability in dry climates.

The Bottom Line Conference for Farmers and Ranchers is intended to be an annual event and will feature experts who will speak to soil health, grazing practices, financial management and more over the course of two days.
