Colorado crop progress and condition report – week ending November 18, 2018

Harvest and fieldwork activities continued last week where conditions allowed, but was delayed in areas due to continued adverse weather and field conditions, according to the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA.

In northeastern counties, warmer midweek weather allowed harvest to advance and corn harvest was noted as nearing completion. Sugarbeet harvest was virtually complete. Sorghum and sunflower harvest also picked up last week. A reporter noted cattle were being moved to corn stalks or other winter pasture.

20th annual Sand Creek Massacre spiritual healing run/walk set

The 20th Annual Sand Creek Massacre Spiritual Healing Run begins at 7:00 a.m. Thursday, November 22, 2018, at the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site. The run/walk is an annual event sponsored by the Northern Cheyenne Tribe of Montana, the Northern Arapaho Tribe of Wyoming, and the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes (Oklahoma) to honor the victims and survivors of the Sand Creek Massacre and for healing of ancestral homelands. This year’s event will mark the 154th year since the Sand Creek Massacre.

Movie Review - Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

The “Fantastic Beasts” series exists as a way for J.K. Rowling to build on the extremely lucrative Wizarding World franchise without continuing to shove Harry Potter down our throats. Taking place in the 1920’s, the prequel series follows magical animal expert Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) as he tries to go about caring for the wondrous creatures without getting sucked into a major conflict in the wizarding community. But no matter how hard he tries, trouble always seems to find him.

Drought improves slightly, snowpack off to good start

While changes were slight for Colorado’s drought conditions this week, early snowpack hints at above normal amounts of water for some areas.

In south central Colorado, extreme drought was replaced with severe conditions in western Las Animas and southern Huerfano counties. Slivers of several north central counties saw abnormally dry conditions overtake moderate drought.

Drought was unchanged across the remainder of the state, including southwest Colorado, which continues to suffer under exceptional drought – the worst category.
