A Funeral Mass of Resurrection will be held Saturday, June 15, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Kit Carson.  Burial will follow in the Kit Carson Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions can be made to the Cheyenne Manor in Cheyenne Wells.

High temperatures across Kiowa County are expected to jump 10 or more degrees versus Wednesday, with a light chance of afternoon thunderstorms.

Most of the county will see temperatures in the upper 80s under sunny skies. Western Kiowa County could reach 90.

Wind will generally be out of the south. Towner and Sheridan Lake could see gusts up to 30 miles per hour while the remainder of the county is expected to stay below 20 mph.

COLORADO HIGHLIGHTS 

Winter wheat production in Colorado, based on conditions as of June 1, 2019, is forecast at 88.15 million bushels, according to the June 1 Agricultural Yield Survey conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. This forecast is unchanged from the May 1 forecast and 26 percent above the 70.20 million bushel crop produced last year. Estimated acreage for harvest, at 2.15 million acres, is unchanged from May 1 and 200,000 acres more than the 1.95 million acres harvested in 2018.

High water closes parts of the Arkansas River near Pueblo due to safety concerns.

Clarence Wayne Mayo 

September 16, 193 - June 10, 2019

A graveside memorial service for longtime Chivington resident Clarence W. Mayo will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 22, 2019, at the Brandon Cemetery with Pastor Lane Gooden of the Praise Community Church in Eads officiating. 

Clarence was born on September 16, 1935, at Kim to Harvey Coin and Pearl Erma (Jones) Mayo and passed away June 10, 2019, at the Memorial Hospital in Colorado Springs at the age of 83.

Charles Wayne Walker

March 18, 1923 - June 8, 2019

Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible Wednesday across southeast Colorado, including Kiowa County later in the day.

After reaching the low 80s Tuesday, today’s highs are expected to fall back to the mid-70s under partly cloudy skies clearing later in the day. Western Kiowa County can expect temperatures closer to 80.
