Dry conditions persisted in Colorado over the past week, resulting in a significant expansion of extreme drought in the southeast corner of the state – a further deterioration from the severe drought that grew across the area last week.

Kiowa County Sheriff Casey Sheridan has announced a burn ban is now in effect across the county.

The ban has been enacted due to recent fire danger and lack of moisture. Outdoor burning and other activities that could spark a fire are prohibited

I had a heart attack about six weeks ago, which required bypass surgery. While in the hospital, I was bombarded by different professionals who instructed me to quit smoking, stop using salt, and change my diet to low fat/low cholesterol. I was very overwhelmed after major surgery that I only remember about half of what I was told.  I have managed to stop smoking but haven’t gotten to the diet change yet. Can you help?

Fire danger is in the rise again for southern Colorado, along with southwest Kansas, the Oklahoma panhandle, northwest Texas and eastern New Mexico.

The Kiowa County Hospital District and County Board met in regular session on January 23, 2018 at 6:45 p.m. at the Bransgrove Building Meeting Room.

District Board members present were: Mary Eikner, Sylvia Shields, Cathryn Anderson, Priscilla Waggoner, and Robert Woods.

County Board members present were: Lori Shalberg, John Negley, and Dennis Pearson. Absent -Craig Kerfoot (called), and Kim Harris (called).
