Governor Visits County Residents, Sees Future Sand Creek Research Center

Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, accompanied by newly-appointed Lieutenant Governor Donna Lynne, stopped in Eads Friday afternoon to visit the building that will become the Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site visitor and research center at the corner of Maine and 12th Streets.
Memorial Day – Honoring the Fallen

Memorial Day – once know as Decoration Day – honors those who died serving the country.
This year, the day falls on it traditional day, May 30. Until the Uniform Monday Holiday Act was passed in 1968, May 30 was the designated day since it corresponded with no major battles and allowed the focus to remain on those who had died. Families would gather to place flowers and other adornments on the graves of soldiers.

Showers and thunderstorms will be a possibility daily through at least Wednesday, with the best chances occurring Monday night. A slightly lower risk continues Tuesday into the evening and dropping further for Wednesday.

USDA Update:. Tuesday numerous tornadoes were spotted thought the county. The FSA office has received some reports of damage including 1 machine shed and several power poles and fences.

Hail stones up to almost three inches in size broke windows, battered cars and windshields and pounded on roofs. Most of the damage focused on the eastern end of Eads.

Disasters overwhelm our city systems and infrastructure. The news often includes reports of damaged transformers or broken water lines. Because these systems are critical to a smoothly operating city, repairing those systems is a high priority.
Disasters also overwhelm people. We have our own inner systems, attention, energy, ability to organize, that get interrupted by emergency situations. These systems are equally critical to protect and repair as soon as possible.
