Internet pre-sales for tickets to the Colorado State Fair entertainment series starts Wednesday, with official sales starting Friday.

Planting activities kept pace with the average last week amidst mixed weather, including above normal temperatures and isolated thunderstorms in areas, according to the Mountain Region Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA.

In northwestern counties, reporters noted rangeland was in mostly fair to good condition and that livestock were being turned out for the summer. Water was noted to be started on irrigated meadows.

Colorado’s annual free fishing weekend is coming Saturday and Sunday. Fishing licenses will not be required anywhere in the state for people of all ages.

Although a license will not be required, Colorado Parks and Wildlife will be enforcing all other rules set for the sport. For those who become “hooked” after a free weekend, licenses are available from hundreds of businesses across the state, or at CPW offices.

Too few people saw the Coen Brothers comedy “Hail, Caesar” back in 2016, but those who did witnessed a terrific breakthrough performance by actor Alden Ehrenreich. Somebody saw how well he played a cowboy from 1950’s Hollywood and decided that he’d make a great cowboy from a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. And thus he was cast as a young Han Solo for a film that takes place between Episodes III and IV of the “Star Wars” series. I really liked Ehrenreich in this movie.
