Bent’s Fort Chapter to Tour Historic Sites in SE Colorado

Saturday, June 11th, the Bent’s Fort Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association will tour several historic sites in Southeast Colorado.  The tour will start at the Star School at 9:00 AM. The Star School is located about 3 miles west of Colorado Beef (junction of Hwys 50 and 287) or 10 miles east of Hasty. Watch out for traffic if you are coming from the west. West bound traffic is hard to see at the school. After learning about the history and reconstruction of the school we will travel to Bent’s New Fort.

Charges Pending for Illegal Marijuana Grow

The Bent County Sheriff s Office, along with the 15th Judicial District Drug Task Force (Prowers County Sheriff's Office, Kiowa County Sheriff's Office) and the Colorado State Patrol, conducted a search warrant at 10811 Highway 50 in Las Animas for an illegal marijuana grow May 31.

The search warrant seized over 200 items of evidence. The parties that have pending charges for this illegal grow are Monty Hawkins, age 59, of Las Animas, and Ricardo Martinez (AKA: Rick Martinez), age 44, of Las Animas.

USPS Urges Registered Voters to Watch For 2016 Primary Ballots

Ballots must be received by election officials by June 28 to count

Continuing its commitment as a partner in Colorado’s election process, the U.S. Postal Service is alerting all registered voters in Colorado to watch their mailboxes for 2016 Primary Election ballots.

“The Postal Service is proud to be a part of the vote-by-mail process in Colorado,” said USPS Colorado/Wyoming District Manager Selwyn Epperson. “Voters consistently entrust their ballots to the mail and our employees are ready to deliver another successful election season.”
