The members of the Weisbrod Hospital Auxiliary met for their October 9, 2018, at J J’s Restaurant for lunch.  Linda Trosper reported that she has already had 17 phone calls requesting space for a Bazaar booth November 17.  She has sent out invitations to possible vendors also.  Nurse-educator Ellen Lane requested a space to tell about strokes.  One lady from the community gave us two exquisitely crocheted afghans for the Auxiliary’s drawing table.  We are accepting items to be in the drawing.

The Bent’s Fort Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association will meet Saturday, November 10, at the J. W. Rawlings Heritage Center and Museum located at 560 Bent Avenue in Las Animas. The general meeting will start at 11:00 a.m., followed by a catered lunch (cost $10).

At 1:00 p.m. Dr. Alexa Roberts, Superintendent, and Rick Wallner, Chief of Interpretation, at Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site will be the guest speakers. 

November 5 & 6, 2018

All games will be held in the New Gym. 

Kit Carson and Cheyenne Wells will be the designated home teams on Monday and will wear white. 

The Losers of games 1 & 2, and the winners of games 3 & 4 will be the designated home team on Tuesday and wear white. 

Jacob E Diel

June 17, 1934 - October 27, 2018

Jacob was born June 17, 1934 in Monte Vista to Jacob and Zuma (Martin) Diel. 

He graduated from Monte Vista High School in 1952 and from the University of Wyoming in 1973. 

On August 22, 1959, he married Barbara Jean Brisbois in Denver.

We’ve all heard of trans fats by now, but what are they and what effect do they have on the body? “Trans” is a chemistry term that refers to the arrangement of molecules. In a trans formation, molecules are arranged on opposite sides of the carbon: carbon double bond.

Trans fats, which are unsaturated, are found in small amounts in animal products. The big offender has been artificial trans fats, like shortening, which contained partially hydrogenated oils. The good news is as of June 2018, artificial trans fats have been banned in the United States.
