Bert and Maizie were down at the swimming hole on Lewis Creek the other day. Saturday it was. The sun was bright hot and these two lovers had found a nice patch of shade near the tire swing tree where they could sip iced tea and watch the youngsters.

Approximately 90 percent of all wildfires are caused by people. One of the most common causes is unattended campfires. Emergency responders need your help in keeping our forests and campgrounds safe for everyone. There are a few key steps to making and maintaining a safe campfire.
Pick a Safe Spot
It will no doubt take a wide array of resources and strategies to achieve the clean air and water initiatives outlined in Gov. John Hickenlooper's executive order this month. Thankfully, the state's grain corn farmers and biofuels industry are already making a difference, and are proud to be a part of the efforts needed to achieve Hickenlooper's vision of Colorado utilizing "renewable" and "affordable energy."
Colorado Parks and Wildlife aquatic biologists and volunteers each carried 10-pound bags of rare greenback cutthroat trout up steep Herman Gulch near Georgetown this week in a bid to permanently return the state fish to its ancestral waters in an alpine stream fed by snowmelt.
While a small portion of central Colorado moved back into drought-free conditions, abnormally dry conditions expanded in the southwest corner of the state. Overall, about one-third of the state remains abnormally dry.
In northeast Colorado, all of Sedgwick and Phillips counties, along with smaller portions of Logan, Weld and Yuma counties remain abnormally dry after being drought-free until two weeks ago. Portions of Larimer and Jackson counties in north central Colorado are also abnormally dry.

Planes, automobiles, and…submarines? Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) just made a big splash with its latest application of 3D printing. Through a partnership with the Navy’s Disruptive Technology Lab, the team at ORNL’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) created the military’s first 3D-printed submarine hull.
Employers in Colorado added 6,500 nonfarm payroll jobs from May to June for a total of 2,647,000 jobs, according to the survey of business establishments. Private sector payroll jobs increased 6,100 and government increased 400.
