SBA accepting nominations for Colorado Small Business Person of the Year award
The U.S. Small Business Administration’s Colorado office is now accepting nominations for its 2017 National Small Business Week Awards, including the annual Small Business Person of the Year. Since 1963, National Small Business Week has recognized the outstanding achievements of America’s small businesses for their contributions to their local communities, and to our nation’s economy.

On Friday evening, the Plainview Junior High and High School students enjoyed pizza and movie night at the school.
The Plainview Knowledge Bowl teams traveled to Vilas, CO on Friday to compete. Both teams placed 4th in their divisions. Congratulations!

Campaign Signs Prohibited on State Highway Right-of-Way

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is reminding supporters of candidates and issues that campaign signs are not permitted in the state’s right-of-way. In addition, placing real estate or other types of signs in state right of way is illegal.
Hunter Sustains Minor Injuries After Bear Attack Near South Park
A man sustained minor injuries after being attacked by a black bear near Red Hill in South Park. Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) officials said the attack occurred at approximately 5 p.m. Friday evening.
The man, who was scouting for a hunting trip, was walking near a stream when he encountered a bear. The bear attacked and knocked him to the ground. The man fought off the attack and the bear ran away.

State health department offers resources to help prevent lead poisoning
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment recommends all low-income children in Colorado be tested for lead at 12 months and 24 months of age. Colorado’s Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program identifies approximately 200 children per year with confirmed elevated blood lead levels.
