Bear Attacks Child Overnight Near Grand Junction
An investigation is underway following a bear attack on a child that occurred over night near Grand Junction in Mesa County.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers interviewed the five-year-old girl’s mother. She said she heard screaming around 2:30 a.m. Sunday, and discovered a black bear dragging her daughter away. The bear dropped the child when her mother started screaming at the animal. She believes her daughter went outside after hearing noises, thinking it was her dog.

“Say,” said Steve, “isn’t that Bobby and Carol Ann?”
“Yep,” said Jimmy, “and if I ain’t mistaken, there’s three of ‘em today.”
‘Exceptional’ Drought Continues to Expand in Colorado
Nearly one-third of Colorado remains within the two worst categories of drought as portions of the southwest corner shift from extreme to exceptional drought.
Exceptional drought, the worst category, has been impacting all of Montezuma, much of La Plata and portions of Dolores and Archuleta counties since April. With the latest update, the remainder of Dolores county moved to exceptional, along with much of San Miguel and parts of San Juan and Montrose counties.
CSU Study Links Snow Persistence, Streamflow
A study by Colorado State University researchers has revealed that the amount of time snow remains on the ground can be used to determine annual streamflow patterns.
In the past, snow accumulation has been used to predict streamflows, however taking accurate measurements is difficult in mountain areas.
