Photo of the Week

One of our most popular features from the past 15 years - a full-page color photo on the front of the Kiowa County Press showing various impressions of life in Kiowa County. While a limited number of copies continue to be printed and distributed each week at Kiowa Healthmart, COOP C-Store in Eads, Haswell Propane, and Thunderbird Petroleum, we wanted to bring this feature to our online readers as well.

Movie Review - The Girl on the Train

By Bob Garver

“The Girl on the Train” is a mystery about a missing woman, based on a novel by Paula Hawkins. It was destined from day one to be compared to similar adaptations like “Gone Girl” and “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” Those films were supposed to be in for a big awards push, but failed to secure Oscar nominations in any major category except Best Actress. Here too is a film where I could see the lead actress claiming the sole Oscar nomination, though the film around her is perhaps too weak to make her a true contender.

Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) today sent a letter with Congressmen Scott Tipton (CO-3), Ken Buck (CO-4), Doug Lamborn (CO-5), and Mike Coffman (CO-06) to Secretary of Veterans Affairs (VA) Robert McDonald calling for swift improvements to be made to streamline and modernize the Veterans Choice Program’s payment, authorization, and referral systems that have been suffering due to Health Net’s poor management. This poor management is threatening the integrity of the Veterans Choice Program, and therefore, threatening timely access to health care for our veterans in Colorado.
