  • John Wesley Brown, a lifelong resident of Kiowa County, will be receiving the Korean War Service Medal.

 

  • Mostly dry, dusty conditions prevailed in Colorado this past week. Weather allowed producers average 7 days suitable for field work but overall moisture supplies to deteriorate.

 

  • Anyone who like to sing is invited to come to the first Christmas Cantata practice.

Enter your Photos: Showcase Colorado Agriculture Through Pictures

From vast wheat fields on the eastern plains and cattle grazing on lush mountain pastures to plump fruit in Western Slope orchards and chili peppers basking in the Pueblo sun, Colorado’s agricultural landscape is endless. It’s time to capture the “spirit” of Colorado agriculture through photographs. The 19th annual “Colorado…it’s AgriCultural” photography contest is seeking entries as a way to celebrate the state’s agricultural heritage.

Deadline Approaching for Colorado Corn FFA Grant Program

For a fourth year, the Colorado Corn Administrative Committee (CCAC) is accepting applications from FFA chapters around the state as part of its Colorado Corn FFA Grant Program.

The deadline to apply is November 15. An application form is available at www.coloradocorn.com.

The Colorado Corn FFA Grant Program assists FFA chapters in Colorado on projects that lack funding within their school district's budget.

Knights of Columbus Tournament Schedule

The Knights of Columbus Junior High Basketball Tournament will be held at Cheyenne Wells Jr.-Sr. High School November 7-8.

All games will be held in the New Gym. Eads and Cheyenne Wells will be the designated home teams on Monday and will wear white. The losers of games 1 & 2, and the winners of games 3 & 4 will be the designated home team on Tuesday and wear white.

Ending Daylight Saving Time Means Increased Wildlife Collision Danger

Colorado Parks and Wildlife reminds drivers that with dusk arriving earlier due to the time change on November 6, the chances increase for collisions with wildlife on the roads.

“The changing season coincides with peak mating time for much of Colorado wildlife, particularly deer,” said Jason Duetsch, CPW district wildlife manager. “Visibility is poor when many of our big game animals are most active. Right now deer, moose, elk and other wildlife are more mobile, easily distracted and more likely to be crossing roads and highways.”

Snooze an Extra Hour: Daylight Saving Time Ends Tonight

Daylight Saving Time ends Sunday morning (November 6, 2016) at 2:00 a.m. when clocks “fall back” one hour to 1:00 a.m. and an hour’s sleep is gained.

Most current computers, cell phones and other digital devices will make the adjustment automatically, though other devices will need to be reset manually – and the occasional technology glitch leads to clocks that are reset on the wrong day, or not at all.
