National Telecommunicator’s Week

An emergency arises and you call 9-1-1 for help, but you don’t know what to tell the dispatcher because you’ve suddenly forgotten your address. Being prepared can help eliminate some of the stress that sets in during emergencies. National Public Safety Telecommunicator’s Week and 9-1-1 Education Month serve as important reminders that being prepared can make all the difference!

Home Country

By Slim Randles

My first wife came from a ranching family way back up in the hills and had a cousin, Ted, who was a hounddog man.

I talked my way into hunting with him, of course.

All went well until we were on the way home, when a badger ran across the road and dove into a large culvert pipe.

"Oh wow!" Ted yelled. "Let's get him!"

He released most of the hounds and they plugged both ends of the culvert pipe with bawling insults. In the dead center of the pipe was a snarling badger.

Doug Wilson Named Colorado Corn Administrative Committee president

Following the recent passing of Colorado Corn Administrative Committee (CCAC) President Charlie Bartlett, CCAC board members elected Doug Wilson as the new president with a unanimous vote this past week.

"We lost an incredible leader with Charlie's passing, but we will certainly make it a priority to carry forward with his innovative and forward-thinking spirit as we address the challenges facing agriculture, and as we make investments on behalf of Colorado's corn farmers," said Wilson, who farms near Olathe.

Photo of the Week

One of our most popular features from the past 15 years - a full-page color photo on the front of the Kiowa County Press showing various impressions of life in Kiowa County. While a limited number of copies continue to be printed and distributed each week at Kiowa Healthmart, COOP C-Store in Eads, Haswell Propane, and Thunderbird Petroleum, we wanted to bring this feature to our online readers as well.
