The Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Public Safety, Stan Hilkey, announced Wednesday (March 16, 2016) the selection of Chief Mike Morgan of Colorado River Fire Rescue to become the next Director of the Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC).   On February 1, 2016, current DFPC Director, Paul Cooke, announced his plan to retire from the Colorado fire service, culminating a 41 year career in fire and emergency services.

The IRS continues to warn consumers to guard against scam phone calls from thieves intent on stealing their money or their identity. Criminals pose as the IRS to trick victims out of their money or personal information. Here are several tips to help you avoid being a victim of these scams:

Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) released the statement below after the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced it set up a Community Care Call Center to help veterans address billing issues with the Choice Program. The Choice Program is responsible for incorrectly billing veterans, which has led to debt collection and affected credit scores. Veterans who are experiencing payment issues associated with the Choice Program can contact 1-877-881-7618 to reach the Community Care Call Center.

Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper Tueday (March 15, 2016) announced the next phase for the Colorado Blueprint 2.0 - Blueprint Initiatives - which invites the state’s rural communities and regions to apply for specialized resources to help make their economies more robust.

 

“These initiatives are all outcomes of the informative roundtables we held in communities throughout the state last year,” said Hickenlooper. “We will be deploying the most requested resources across the state through Blueprint Initiatives.”

The Kiowa County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a two vehicle accident that resulted in one injured person.

Barry Davis, formerly of Haswell surprised his Aunt Elda Davis Stavely last week when he went to visit her in Prairie Pines.  Barry, who is a contract construction worker, travels around the world to build Embassies.  Sometimes his mother, Wanda (Dunlap) goes with him.

It’s nearly time to take the weather cover off of the boat and head to the lake. The east and west boat ramps at John Martin Reservoir are opening for the summer season on March 15.
