Punxsutawney Phil may have predicted another six weeks of winter weather when he saw his shadow last week, however the forecast in Kiowa County and southeast Colorado is sending a different message.
Sunday starts off under mostly sunny skies and a high in the low 60s. Overnight, the temperature drops off to around 30.
In honor of missing children across the country, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is hosting a coloring contest for Colorado 5th grade students as part of a national campaign sponsored by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ).
Every year the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) takes time to commemorate the valiant and unselfish acts of the many organizations and individuals who bring our missing children home. Since 1983, May 25th has been designated as National Missing Children’s Day.

The problem was Mrs. Doc, you see. Oh, don’t misunderstand. She’s a perfectly wonderful lady and we all think the world of her, and as far as we know she has yet to burn down a house or start a war or anything.
The problem is, we don’t know her first name.

The nominations for the 89th Academy Awards were announced this past Tuesday. I was reasonably happy with them, though I wish the Academy would have shown some love to Martin Scorsese’s underappreciated “Silence.” Here are my thoughts on ten major categories, who I want to win, who I think will win, and in some cases who’s so sure to win that a lot of analysis isn’t necessary. Sadly, that’s true of many of the major categories, and it’s the lesser ones that inspire the most debate.
One of our most popular features over the past 16 years - a full-page color photo on the front of the Kiowa County Press showing various impressions of life in Kiowa County. While a limited number of copies continue to be printed and distributed each week at Kiowa Healthmart, COOP C-Store in Eads, Haswell Propane, and Thunderbird Petroleum, we wanted to bring this feature to our online readers as well.
