Weather Outlook – the Week Ahead: Warm(er)

By Chris Sorensen

After a weekend of snow and below-freezing temperatures, including a reading of -23 at Lamar Sunday morning, a slight warmup will take hold for much of the work week.

Sunday’s high will remain below the freezing mark as the temperature struggles to reach 20, then falls to the negative single digits overnight.

Look for mid-30s Monday under sunny skies, and mid-teens overnight.

The warming continues for Tuesday through Thursday, with daily temperatures in the mid-40s, potentially approaching 50 Tuesday. Overnight lows will be in the teens.

Home Country

by Slim Randles

“I can’t stand winter,” said Herb Collins, who had dropped in at the Mule Barn’s philosophy counter for a quick cup. “There’s nothing to do.”

“Get out and enjoy it,” suggested Doc. “Go skiing. Go ice fishing. Build a snowman. Do something. Then you’ll feel better.”

“I don’t think your advice will take,” said Dud. “Herb seems to be intransigent on this one.”

We all looked at Dud.

“You see, he said he couldn’t stand winter,” Dud continued, “which shows he has a proclivity for intransigence on that particular subject.”

Movie Review - Office Christmas Party

By Bob Garver

For years, I thought that Jason Bateman, Jennifer Aniston, and Courtney B. Vance all seemed like nice people. I know nobody’s perfect, but I didn’t have any problems with them. Now having seen them in “Office Christmas Party,” I have to assume that they are in fact horrible people. They’re not necessarily horrible because they did this movie, but they’re horrible because of something they did before this movie. They did something horrible and now have to do this movie as part of a blackmail.

Photo of the Week

One of our most popular features over the past 15 years - a full-page color photo on the front of the Kiowa County Press showing various impressions of life in Kiowa County. While a limited number of copies continue to be printed and distributed each week at Kiowa Healthmart, COOP C-Store in Eads, Haswell Propane, and Thunderbird Petroleum, we wanted to bring this feature to our online readers as well.
