Take a First Day Hike at a Colorado State Park on New Year's Day

This January 1, Colorado Parks and Wildlife invites Coloradans to welcome 2017 by heading outside to a Colorado State Park. First Day Hikes are guided activities that offer a chance to start the new year right by getting people out for some exercise in nature. For the new year, 27 state parks are participating by hosting an organized hike on New Year’s Day.

USDA Announces Farmer Fair Practices Rules - Clarifications for Industry & Protections for Farmers

Rules Seek to Ensure Fairness and Protect Rights of Farmers

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration (GIPSA) today announced updated regulations to protect the rights of farmers. The Farmer Fair Practices Rules target the most harmful practices hurting farmers and clearly outlines common sense protections to restore fairness and reduce the burden for farmers seeking justice under the Packers and Stockyards Act. This is the most recent action in the Obama's Administration's efforts to level the playing field for all Americans.

4-H and NASA Partner on Space Age STEM Curriculum

NASA and 4-H, a program of USDA’s National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA), are teaming up with Astronaut and 4-H alumna Peggy Whitson to inspire youth to develop life skills for success inside and outside the classroom. The online resource hub “Expeditionary Skills for Life,” will feature lessons and content built around the skills needed to become an astronaut that also help students succeed across the board.

Why Become a Family Child Care Provider?

Every year thousands of American women (almost all women!) make the decision to become a family child care provider.  It’s an important decision to take on a job that is not easy. Our society often does not appreciate and recognize the valuable work that child care providers do. But, being a family child care provider is also very rewarding! Caring for children from other families in your home is a wonderful job with many benefits.

Defeating Those Winter Blues

Right now is the time of year when some people are affected by those “Winter Blues”, or a mild form of depression.  Sunshine gives valuable nutrients, and what was stored in your body from last summer is now mostly depleted. There are some ways to counteract those “Blues” symptoms. As always, remember to check with your primary care provider before starting any new regimen involving over the counter medications or herbal vitamins and supplements as these can have a negative interaction with some prescription medications.
