Dewey reached up to straighten his tie and stuck a finger up a nostril by mistake. Here he was, on the most momentous evening of his life and he couldn’t do one little thing right. Tie a tie. Every 9-year-old boy getting ready for church could do it, but not Dewey.

- Baby Bear Hugs was the recipient of the Group Publishing, Inc 2002 Community Service Award. This award was in recognition for outstanding service to improve community life in northern Colorado.
- USDA Update-Rod Johnson: We had some significant wind Saturday into Sunday before it started to snow. Several producers have had to chisel land to stop the blowing.

Kiowa County Commissioners Meeting Minutes – January 25, 2018
The Kiowa County Commissioners Regular meeting was called to order on January 25, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. by Commissioner Donald Oswald. Oswald opened the meeting with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Those in attendance were:

Chairman Richard Scott, Absent due to illness
McLoud moved and Oswald seconded the motion to approve the minutes as presented. Motion carried.

Eads Consumers Supply Adds U-Haul Affiliation
U-Haul Company of Colorado has announced that Eads Consumers Supply has signed on as a U-Haul neighborhood dealer to serve Eads.
Eads Consumers Supply will offer U-Haul trucks, towing equipment, moving supplies and in-store pick-up for boxes at its former convenience store at the southeast corner of Eads along Highway 287.

Former Legislator, Businessman Elwood Gillis Dies
Former Colorado State Representative and businessman Elwood Gillis died Tuesday at the age of 83. His daughters were at his side.
Gillis served in the state legislature from 1981 to 1990, and chaired the Joint Budget Committee, which oversees the state’s annual budget. He also served as Mayor of Lamar in Prowers county from 1994 to 1995.
He was well-known in southeast Colorado as owner and operator of a number of businesses starting in 1963, and as a member of civic groups such as the Masons, Lion’s Club, and Lamar Jaycees.
