• January 21, 2022 - Sand Creek Massacre visitor center closing February 1 – Due to a staffing shortage, the Sand Creek Massacre visitor center in Eads closed, however the National Historic Site in eastern Kiowa County remained open.
• March 13, 2022 - Lamar Community College’s New Rodeo Coach TJ Watts inspires next generation equine program students – Kiowa County native TJ Watts joined the LCC faculty to bring his rodeo experience and expertise to the next generation.
• July 25, 2022 - Kiowa County Sheriff hospitalized following ATV accident – Kiowa County Sheriff Forrest Frazee received significant injuries in an ATV crash, however the office remained fully operational during his absence.
• April 11, 2022 - Golden Plains Insurance continues Colorado expansion with purchase of Baxter Agency in Eads – Nick Palmer’s Golden Plains Insurance Agency acquired Baxter Insurance in Eads from Marilyn Baxter, and will continue to operate the local office.
• February 25, 2022 - Commissioners call for meeting with Xcel, landowners to discuss power line setbacks – Citizen concerns about a request to avoid building power transmission lines within 10 miles of the Sand Creek Massacres National Historic Site prompted the Kiowa County Commissioners to call for a meeting with Xcel Energy officials.
• February 22, 2022 - Murdock announces candidacy for Sheriff – Kayla Murdock signaled her intent to become the next Sheriff in Kiowa County, one of three candidates hoping to succeed Forrest Frazee.
• July 10, 2022 - Governor Polis tours eastern plains communities – Colorado Governor Jared Polis made a stop in Kiowa County as part of a tour of the state’s eastern plains to hear the concerns and issues facing people in the area.
• June 28, 2022 - 2022 Kiowa County Unofficial Primary Election Results – Only one local race – for Sheriff – was contested in the primary election. Former CSP Trooper Bryan Williams edged Undersheriff Kayla Murdock to become the Republican candidate. Democrats did not field a candidate, assuring Williams’ victory in November.
