Graveside services for Lamar resident Maurice Smith will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 19, 2019, at Fairmount Cemetery in Lamar with Pastor Kathy Leathers officiating. Visitation will take place from 2:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2019, at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch until 10:00 p.m. Friday for 14 northeast Colorado counties. Portions of Kansas, Wyoming and Nebraska are also included.
Heavy rain, hail, and winds gusting to 60 miles per hour are possible. Hail could be larger than two inches in diameter.

Billie Jean Gooden
May 30, 1934 – August 13, 2019
Billie Gooden, 85, of La Junta, passed away unexpectedly August 13, 2019, in Aurora. Billie was born on May 30, 1934, to Bill and Ruby Whitman, and was the second born of six daughters. She married her high school sweetheart, Tom Gooden, June 6, 1952, in Raton, New Mexico. He preceded her in death March 18, 2007. They had four children.
The Kiowa County Commissioner's regular meeting was called to order on July 25, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Richard Scott. Oswald opened the meeting with a prayer and the Pledge of allegiance. Those in attendance:

Funeral services for Kenneth Neugebauer will be held at 10:30 a.m. August 17, 2019, at Valley Memorial Funeral Chapel in Holly with Pastor Paul Floyd officiating.
Interment will follow in the Holly Cemetery.
