Colorado Parks halts fishing in the 'toilet bowl' as scheduled maintenance begins

The City of Aspen has scheduled annual maintenance of the hydroelectric plant on the dam at Ruedi Reservoir which began Monday. During the approximately 10-day effort, Colorado Parks and Wildlife will implement a voluntary fishing closure in the 'toilet bowl,' a popular fishing hole located on the Fryingpan River at the base of the dam's outlet.

Sand Creek speaker series: causes of the Sand Creek Massacre

“I tell you, Ned, it was hard to see little children on their knees have their brains beat out by men professing to be civilized.”

So wrote Captain Silas S. Soule in 1864, shortly after the national tragedy known as the Sand Creek Massacre. Two hundred and thirty souls – Cheyenne and Arapaho men, women, and children – lost their lives that cold November day in 1864.

It’s a tragedy that haunts us today. But what were the causes that led to this brutal attack?

Kiowa County Commissioners meeting minutes -October 11, 2018

The Kiowa County Commissioner's regular meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Richard Scott on October 11, 2018. Oswald opened the meeting with prayer and Pledge of Allegiance. Those attending were:

Patricia Roper, Deputy County Clerk 

Tina Adamson, Administrator

McLoud moved and Oswald seconded the motion to approve the minutes with the amended corrections. Motion carried.
