A few things are new this season:
Dear Dietitian,
I am trying to lose weight, so I often skip breakfast. My husband insists that this is not good for me and actually works against my efforts to lose weight. What do you say? --Shirley
Dear Shirley,
The Lamar Community College volleyball team will enter Region IX-South play 14-7 after winning two of three in Clarendon, Texas, over the weekend.
The Lopes earned sweeps against Clarendon and Garden City after dropping a five-set battle to Blinn at the Bulldog Classic. The team is home this week for three straight region matches beginning with Northeastern Junior College on Thursday.
Kids need a movie right now. The last month or so has been dominated by adult fare, or at least PG-13 movies that target teens, but don’t promise fun for the whole family. “Disney’s Christopher Robin” is still playing on over 1,000 screens, but it’s clearly on its way out. The release calendar has made it so that kids have to take what they can get, and what they’re getting is “The House with a Clock in Its Walls”. Fortunately this movie isn’t a terrible thing to get, but it’s not all that great either.
When it comes to river rafting in Colorado, you won’t be disappointed. There’s a river for everyone, from the extreme whitewater rapids of the Arkansas to the lazy, scenic stretches of the Upper Colorado. To help you decide which river to explore on your next rafting adventure, we’ve compiled a list of some of the mildest and some of the most intense rivers in Colorado—with their classifications included.

Banana peppers add a kick to these delicious enchiladas - and are in season the same time as bell peppers.
Our communities were shocked and saddened Friday morning when the tragic news came that Seth Splitter had been killed in a job-related accident. Seth grew up in Sheridan Lake and graduated from Plainview School. He was living in Wisconsin with his wife at the time of his death. Our heartfelt condolences go out to David and Dennill Splitter and the rest of Seth's family.
Dear EarthTalk: A friend recently told me that when her family stopped using hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes all the time, they stopped getting sick so much. Is there any research backing up this theory, or is it just a “new” wives’ tale? -- Betsy Edger, via e-mail
