The Kiowa County Commissioners regular meeting was called to order on April 11, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. by Chairman Richard Scott.  Scott opened the meeting with prayer and Pledge of Allegiance. Those in attendance:

Oswald moved and Robertson seconded the motion to approve the minutes as presented. Motion carried.

Kelley Ramsey Patton

January 20, 1953 – April 24, 2019

Kelley Ramsey Patton, 66, passed away peacefully in his sleep on April 24, 2019, at home where he wanted to be with his wife, Debra Edmundson Patton, and niece, Kelly Carter, caring for him. 

Kelley was born January 20, 1953, in Cheyenne Wells to Rogenne and Glenn Patton. He was the seventh child, having four brothers and two sisters whose ages span 21 years.

Kenneth Dean Giskie

June 17, 1933 – April 21, 2019

Kenneth Dean Giskie, age 85, of Lakin, Kansas, died Sunday, April 21, 2019, at Bob Wilson Memorial Hospital in Ulysses, Kansas. He was born June 17, 1933, in Brownell, Kansas, the son of Henry and Lottie (Foos) Giskie.

Here it is – the grand finale to the superhero franchise that defined a whole generation of blockbusters. We thought we were going to get a definitive end last year with “Avengers: Infinity War,” but then the evil Thanos (Josh Brolin) procured the powerful Infinity Gauntlet, snapped his fingers, and half the cast died. Never before had a superhero movie ended with a bad guy standing tall on that level. It was hard to believe that Marvel Studios would kill off so many popular characters, and even harder to believe that they’d let those characters stay dead.

Lamar Community College recently hosted the Lamar Community College Regional Future Farmers of America Career Development Events, featuring over 900 participants competing in 12 events across campus. 

For a number of years, students from across Colorado and neighboring states gathered at LCC for a practice run prior to the upcoming State FFA Contest, and what began with fewer than 100 students has grown into the largest regional FFA contest in the state.
