Colorado State Forest Service Now Accepting Seedling Tree Orders
The Colorado State Forest Service is now accepting orders on a first-come, first-serve basis for low-cost seedling trees, shrubs and perennials grown at its Fort Collins nursery. More than 100 species/size options are available, with seedlings ordered now to be distributed statewide next spring.
Southeastern Colorado Regional Nightingale Nurse Recognition
The Colorado Nurses’ Association and Southeastern Colorado Area Health Education Center are soliciting nominations for the annual Southeastern Colorado Regional Nightingale Nurse Recognition Event. The event will be held March 31, 2017. Nominations are encouraged by community members and other health care professionals. This event will recognize exceptional nurses who are working or retired from nursing in Southeastern Colorado. Nominations can be made at:

Sandy Dexter to Talk About Amache Ochinee Prowers
The next Bent's Fort Chapter meeting will be held on Saturday, November 12, at the JW Rawlings Heritage Center and Museum located at 560 Bent Ave., Las Animas, CO. The Chapter meeting will start at 11 AM followed by a potluck.
At 1 PM Sandy Dexter will present a talk titled "Walking Woman” about Amache Ochinee Prowers who was the Cheyenne wife of John Wesley Prowers. In her talk Sandy will share what she has learned from researching Amache's life, especially her life after the death of John Prowers. It is a fascinating story.
Fanny Murdock Giving Trees Return for the Holidays
With the holidays quickly approaching our thoughts and prayers go out to the less fortunate families in Kiowa County. This year, as in previous years, three “Fanny Murdock Giving Trees” will be put up around the county.
This tradition was started years ago by Charlotte Phillips, who had a passion for seeing that every child in need received a gift.

Thanksgiving is a little more than weeks away, and the December holidays are closing in. The state health department reminds Coloradans to protect themselves and their loved ones by getting a flu vaccination. It takes about two weeks after getting a vaccine for a person to build immunity against the flu.
