We surely did receive some much needed moisture this past week.  I would always rather receive rain than snow.

Clinton and Wilma Evans, former Towner residents, will be celebrating their 68th Wedding Anniversary on January 30th.  Their address is Box 187 - Tonkowa, OK 74653 and I hope lots of people will send them a card

Susan Greenfield went to Sterling, CO this past Thursday to attend her Aunts funeral on Friday.  She spent the rest of the weekend with her dad, Norm.

Weather Outlook – the Week Ahead: Chance of Rain

A hint of rain returns to the forecast this week to potentially help further improve drought conditions.

Sunday starts off sunny for the eastern plains, with a high in the mid-40s before dropping to near 20 overnight.

Colorado’s mountains will see another wind-driven snow event starting Sunday evening, continuing to Tuesday morning. Southern mountains could see ten to 20 additional inches of snow, and wind gusts to 55 miles-per-hour. Mountain passes are likely to be slick and snow-packed.

Gardner Statement on Pruitt’s Commitment to Review EPA Decision on Gold King Mine Spill Claims

Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO) has reacted to President-elect Trump’s intended nominee to lead the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Scott Pruitt, and his commitment to reviewing the EPA’s decision to deny claims under the Federal Tort Claims Act (FTCA) for any injury or economic loss arising out of the Gold King Mine spill in August 2015. Attorney General Pruitt stated his commitment during his Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works confirmation hearing.

Delbert McLain came by to have coffee with us the other day. He’s our chamber of commerce, you know. Delbert’s mission inn life seems to be to promote our little valley into becoming so important and prosperous that we won’t want to live here anymore.

But he does try hard, and we admire that.

“Got an idea, guys,” he said. He swept his necktie out of the way so he wouldn’t accidentally butter it. “A contest.”

“Like the knife-sharpening contest you thought up, Del?”

Republican Party Organizational Meeting

The Kiowa County Republican party will hold their organizational meeting on Monday, February 6, 7:00 pm at the Bank Meeting Room in Eads. The purpose of this meeting is to elect party officers for the county for a 2 year team, appoint necessary committees, and address any other business brought forward by committee members. The public is welcome to attend this meeting, but will not have voting privileges.
