Winter Tree Watering Necessary During Drought Conditions

Despite a relatively small amount of precipitation falling recently, the most recent U.S. Drought Monitor map indicates that nearly all of Colorado is currently experiencing some level of drought. Trees in urban and community settings throughout this region are dormant now, but still require occasional watering during dry winters to remain in top health.

US Marshal Killed Serving Warrant on Fugitive

A Deputy United States Marshall was killed Friday while serving an arrest warrant on a fugitive in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

According to the United States Marshals Service, Deputy US Marshal Christopher David Hill, 45, and two other officers were shot while attempting to arrest Shayla Lynette Towles Pierce at a home in Harrisburg. An unidentified man at the home began shooting at officers, who returned fire and killed the man.

Deputy Hill was taken to a local hospital where he died. The other officers had non-life-threatening injuries and were treated.

He is survived by his wife Carolyn; his mother Barbara; both of his in-laws, William and Frances Pepper; four daughters and three sons-in law; Rebekah and Brandon Harris of Frederick; Sarah and Michael Huntington of Torrington, Wyoming, Rachel and Preston Hoffman of Fort Worth, Texas; and Elizabeth Puls of Las Vegas, Nevada; sixteen grandchildren; sisters Janet Ashmore, Diane Pennington, and Nancy Pfeifer; and brother Timothy Puls.

Services were held Wednesday January 17, 2018, in Thornton.
