Expect a warm weekend ahead for activities in Kiowa County, such as the Kiowa County Road Rally, Haswell Bazaar, and Oktoberfest.

Applications are now available for area vendors looking to participate in the 42^nd Annual Art, Craft & Food Festival at the Lamar Community College Wellness Center on Saturday, November 12, 2016. 

This event allows area residents a great opportunity to take care of some holiday gifts while shopping local and supporting small businesses. Last year’s festival showcased 60 vendors to over 500 holiday shoppers.

“The Girl on the Train” is a mystery about a missing woman, based on a novel by Paula Hawkins. It was destined from day one to be compared to similar adaptations like “Gone Girl” and “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.” Those films were supposed to be in for a big awards push, but failed to secure Oscar nominations in any major category except Best Actress. Here too is a film where I could see the lead actress claiming the sole Oscar nomination, though the film around her is perhaps too weak to make her a true contender.
