After more than a day of ice and snow, the National Weather Service converted a winter storm warning in Kiowa County to a winter weather advisory, which was then cancelled Monday morning.
A layer of ice accumulated Saturday night into Sunday as freezing rain fell in the area. Rain continued periodically until later in the afternoon before temperatures dropped and a layer of snow was added on top of the ice.

Certainly been having a mix of weather lately. Sure glad we didn't get the terrible winds they had up along I-25. The ice this morning wasn't pleasant, but we do need the moisture.
Our communities would like to extend their condolences to the family of Cora Coffman, who lost her sister Cathy, this past week. Cathy lived in Illinois, but grew up in the Sheridan Lake area.

After a lull in activity Saturday evening, bands of precipitation are moving south to north across southern Colorado to start Sunday.
Temperatures are expected to remain at or below the freezing mark throughout the day, with bands of freezing rain expected in much of the area. Two- to three-tenths of an inch of ice will build up from the rain, with the highest amounts occurring in Prowers and Baca Counties. Southeast Kiowa County may also see the higher amounts.
