Colorado Parks and Wildlife aquatic biologists and volunteers each carried 10-pound bags of rare greenback cutthroat trout up steep Herman Gulch near Georgetown this week in a bid to permanently return the state fish to its ancestral waters in an alpine stream fed by snowmelt.
While a small portion of central Colorado moved back into drought-free conditions, abnormally dry conditions expanded in the southwest corner of the state. Overall, about one-third of the state remains abnormally dry.
In northeast Colorado, all of Sedgwick and Phillips counties, along with smaller portions of Logan, Weld and Yuma counties remain abnormally dry after being drought-free until two weeks ago. Portions of Larimer and Jackson counties in north central Colorado are also abnormally dry.

Through a partnership with the Navy’s Disruptive Technology Lab, the team at ORNL’s Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF) created the military’s first 3D-printed submarine hull.
Employers in Colorado added 6,500 nonfarm payroll jobs from May to June for a total of 2,647,000 jobs, according to the survey of business establishments. Private sector payroll jobs increased 6,100 and government increased 400.
