Lt. Governor Lynne Tours Area for Literacy Week

Colorado Lieutenant Governor Donna Lynne kicked off literacy week Monday at Pueblo Community College with a reading from Giraffes Can’t Dance by Giles Andreae. Students received a copy of the book

Lynne continues her tour Tuesday with a reading at Columbian Early Childhood Center in La Junta at 10:00 a.m., and will also host a roundtable on the challenges of early childhood education in rural areas. She will then conduct another reading at 11:40 a.m. at the McDonald’s restaurant in La Junta.

Ordway to be Recognized for Park and Playground Improvements

Residents of Ordway have even more reason to get out and play. The Town of Ordway will receive a Lottery Starburst Award for utilizing Lottery funds to give a major facelift to the city’s primary park and playground.

Lottery proceeds including $10,000 from the Conservation Trust Fund (CTF) and a $288,652 grant from Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) facilitated the upgrades to the Town of Ordway / Crowley County School District Park and Playground.

The Starburst Award will be presented at the Town Council meeting on Monday, September 26 at 6 pm.

Suspicious Death Under Investigation in La Junta

Southeast area law enforcement agencies are investigating a suspicious death occurring in the town of La Junta September 16.

La Junta police officers were called to a home in the 2300 block of Carson Ave., just before 2:00 p.m., on a report of an unresponsive male.

Responding officers found Timothy L. Kirkpatrick, 51, unresponsive inside the home. Kirkpatrick was later pronounced dead.

The circumstances surrounding Kirkpatrick’s death are currently being investigated.
