The Bureau of Land Management approved a proposal to drill mineral samples in Fremont county according to an announcement made Friday.

A 15-year-old suspect is in custody and a school staff member has been suspended following threats that were allegedly made this week against Elbert School in Elbert county.

Deputies with the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office were notified Tuesday about a possible threat against the school. A student reportedly made threats to harm other students, and the threats were considered credible.

Drought conditions continued to evolve in Colorado this week, with improvements for north central counties, and extreme drought continuing to encroach on areas in the south.

A major wave of consolidation that kicked off in 2016 continues to move forward with the U.S. Department of Justice allowing chemical producer Bayer to acquire the U.S. based seed company Monsanto, reported on April 9.

The Eads Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for the annual Citizen of the Year and Volunteer of the Year awards. Nominations may be anonymous, but must be in written form. 

The nomination letters must be returned no later than May 1, 2018 to Eads Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 163, Eads, CO  81036.  

The presentation of the awards will take place during the Kiowa County Economic Development Foundation (KCEDF) annual dinner meeting that will be held later this spring at a date and time to be announced later.
