Emergency crews responded to two lightning-sparked fires in Kiowa County Sunday night.
Fifty area fire fighters and nearly 40 pieces of equipment were used to contain the blazes, which occurred near the intersection of County Roads 49 and R, and along County Road 54.
Nearly 2,000 acres burned between the two fires, which were contained and in mop-up by 3:00 a.m. Monday morning.

Fishing is slow for all species. The lake is still at a higher volume. Night fishing is the best time to fish due to warm daytime temperatures.

Lee and Maxine (Peck) Blooding celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends in Fort Collins Saturday afternoon. The Bloodings organized the Prairie Queen 4-H Club in l948 so there are still some adults in this community who lovingly remember them and the life changing lessons they taught us.

Federal red tape causes harmful delays to water storage efforts in Northern Colorado
Congressman Ken Buck published an op-ed in the Colorado Statesman and released a video Friday to highlight the ways in which federal laws have exacerbated the water shortage issues experienced in northern Colorado. He specifically highlights the Northern Integrated Supply Project (NISP), an effort to increase water storage in northern Colorado through the creation of a new reservoir.

Seat belt usage rates for Colorado rural communities are some of the lowest in the state. In fact, according to a 2015 CDOT survey, three of the five lowest counties for seat belt use in Colorado are rural — Baca (67.1 percent), Delta (70.8 percent) and Montrose (75.5 percent).
