Deer hunters: watch for mandatory chronic wasting disease testing information

Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) will be conducting mandatory chronic wasting disease (CWD) testing again during the 2018 hunting season in an effort to continue collecting more information about CWD and how it may be affecting our herds. Voluntary and mandatory sampling is critical for data collection on this disease that impacts the long-term health of our herds.

Ag statistics: August small grains report

COLORADO HIGHLIGHTS 

All wheat production in Colorado, estimated at 70.50 million bushels, is down 20 percent from 2017, according to the September 1 Agricultural Survey conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. All wheat yield was 36.1 bushels per acre, down 7.1 bushels per acre from a year ago.

·     Amity Mutual Irrigation Company concluded a $350,000 reconstruction of the Nee No She dam with a dedication ceremony.

·     Skylah Lyon-Filbeck named the cutest baby at the 2003 Kiowa County Fair. Second place was Jayden Kiniston with Hatch Nelson being third. There were 15 other entries in the contest and each will receive a book and certificate.

“Don’t you just love this time of year?” said Doc. “Football season. Rodeo finals coming up soon. Time to go hunting. All that stuff.”

Windy Wilson sipped at his coffee. Oh good. Doc gave us another topic.

“Sports,” Windy said. “thems my putner fav-o-rite things … well, ‘long with dogs … and country musicals and that kinder thing.”

The guys at the philosophy counter of the Mule Barn truck stop grinned at Windy, who has yet to encounter a sentence or thought he couldn’t improve.

“So,” said Steve, the tall cowboy of the bunch, “what’s your favorite sport, Windy?”
