Well, the big election has come and gone and there are happy faces and not so happy faces. Congratulations to all the newly elected officials. Here's hoping we have a great year(s) ahead of us.
Sunday was Veteran's Day, and we wish all of them the very best. Our world is a better place because of all the men and women who have served their countries over the years.

Home basketball games at Lamar Community College have been further postponed due to a shipping delay with the new scoreboards. The new estimated arrival for the scoreboards is Tuesday, November 13. If all goes well with the installation, the Lopes will host two home games this week on Wednesday and Thursday, November 14 and 15.

I would like to thank everyone who supported me during the election for Kiowa County Treasurer, as well as the numerous individuals who went above and beyond to help out as well.

I am of the boring opinion that the 1966 animated holiday classic “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” is a work of genius and the 2000 live-action take on the same story is an ugly, mean-spirited abomination. Is it any surprise that the new animated film “Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch” falls somewhere in between? I suppose it might be a mild surprise that it’s not as bad as the 2000 version, given the painful, obnoxious ad campaign for the film (The Grinch threw a sarcastic compliment at “The Emoji Movie,” ha… ha?).
It’s that time of year—Fall and Christmas Bazaar season!
The Weisbrod Hospital Auxiliary and its members throughout the years have one money-making project and it’s their annual Fall Bazaar.
The money raised from the annual bazaar purchases many extra items to support the Hospital and Extended Care Unit residents.
Saturday evening, American Legion Post #125 held their annual supper to thank all Veterans for their service to our country.
Forty-four veterans, spouses and guests attended the supper from Eads, Sheridan Lake, Towner, Kit Carson, Cheyenne Wells and La Junta.
Every year, we set aside Veteran’s Day for America’s heroes. But is this one day enough?
One day per year doesn’t amount to weeks spent in foxholes in the French countryside. One day per year doesn’t suffice for months of day and night patrols through Fallujah. One day per year doesn’t replace the years of sorrow felt over fellow soldiers fallen in Vietnamese jungles.
We owe a debt to these men and women whose military service has ensured our way of life and our freedom. We owe a debt to them that we can never repay in full.
