Spring fieldwork was well underway last week across the state, according to the Mountain Region Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA.
Isolated moisture was received in areas, but not enough to provide any real relief from drought conditions. Producers statewide were noted to be fertilizing and spraying for weeds where conditions allowed.

High fire danger across eastern Colorado Monday is expected to return Tuesday as winds are predicted to gust as high as 60 miles per hour.
A fire weather watch originally issued Saturday has become a red flag warning for most of southeast Colorado Monday. Portions of western Colorado have also been placed under a warning. Fire danger and a high wind watch are on tap for Tuesday as well.
This week, the Bureau of Land Management Grand Junction Field Office approved Fram Operating, LLC’s Whitewater Unit Master Development Plan, an oil development project 15 miles southeast of Grand Junction that supports the Administration’s America First Energy Plan.

As of March 1, Colorado growers intend to plant 1.50 million acres of corn for all purposes in 2018, up 40,000 acres, or 3 percent from last year's plantings, according to the March 1 Agricultural Survey conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. Sorghum planting intentions total 400,000 acres, down 10,000 acres from last year. The area expected to be seeded to oats, at 55,000 acres, is up 5,000 acres from a year ago.
